Note : Here I’m Talking about remote access from windows 7 to windows server , but you can use the same technique to connect to windows 7 with the exact step that will be mentioned in this post .
Today we’ll talk about Remote Access technique.
Let’s assume that you have a server with Windows server 2008 operating system and you are the admin of this server .
The server is located in its special condition room . you want to access the server many times a day . you can access this using your personal computer with Windows 7 operating system or any other operating system like Mac or Linux ……
you need just to set the windows server just to allow some users to access the server remotely and to open the remote access port in firewall to allow connection from another computers .
Now you will see how to set up your Windows server :
1- open start menu —-> Right click on Computer —-> Properties .
2- in the right of the screen you will see Task options choose Advanced system setting .
3- from system properties choose Remote Tap .
4- on remote desktop part press on the option “Allow connection only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (more secure)”.
5- press select users button to select which user can access the server using Remote Desktop.
6- a new window appear tells you the users can connect to the server using Remote Desktop , and gives you a hint that the administrator already has the right to access the server remotely , press on add to add new users or press remove if you want to remove specific user”s”.
7- press Add .
8- Add the name of the user you want to allow to access remotely and press OK.
9- Now we want to ensure that the remote access port which is (3389) is opened in the Firewall .
10- from control panel —-> Windows Firewall.
11- Click on “Allow a program through Windows Firewall”.
12 – in Exceptions tab press check next to “Remote Access” —–> the press OK , now you opened port 3389 , and finished your work on Windows Server .
13- Go to Windows 7 and press start and type “Remote Desktop Connection” and press on the result .
14- Remote Desktop Connection program will run and will ask you to enter the IP of the Computer that you want to access to remotely.
15- Enter the IP of Windows Server and then : then the port number 3389 that you opened in Windows Firewall like the next figure.
16 – Press Connect .
17 – The program will ask you to enter The username and The password of the user you allowed to access remotely before .
18 – Then Remote desktop gives you a message tells you that “The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified. Do you want to connect any way ? “. This problem is a certificate issue , Windows 7 didn’t recognize the certificate that coming from the server because the server is not in the trusted certified authority .
19- press yes then you will see the server’s desktop in your PC .
congratulations you accessed successfully 🙂
