Windows 7 – Folder Options Problem !!

Some times your computer get infected with virus removes the Folder Option menu item from all windows explorer menus and removes the Folder Option item from Control Panel.

Don’t get angry every problem has a solution in Windows 7 and now we’ll see the solution of this problem.

1- Start menu -> run -> gpedit.msc.

2- The Local Group Policy Editor will be opened.

3- From the left tree choose : User configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Explorer .

4- Double click on Removes the Folder Options menu item from the Tools menu policy.

5- Change the state to Disable and press OK.

6- Go and check the Folder Option item in any Windows Explorer Menu >>>>>>>>>>> It appears again .

Windows 7 – Unchangeable Desktop Background

You have a computer with one or more accounts and you want to specify the desktop background displayed in all users’s desktop.

It is so easy , just do the following steps :

1- Log in as a computer administrator .

2- Choose which image that you want to specify it as a desktop background and copy it’s link, for example (C:\1.jpg).

3- Start menu -> Run.

4- Type gpedit.msc and press enter .

5-  The Local Group Policy Editor will be opened.

6- from the left tree choose : User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Desktop -> Desktop . in the right window you’ll see all the policies that you can apply .

7- Double click on Desktop Wallpaper policy .

8- New window will appear press Enable chick box and paste the link of your image in Wallpaper Name field.

9- Press OK and then log off from your account and log in again.

Try to change the desktop background . You will not be able to do it.

Notice that the desktop background will be applied on all windows users .

Congratulations you set a unchangeable desktop background  🙂 .

Windows 7 – Quota

You have an operating system with two users you as an administrator and another account which is standard user .

you want to set a limit on how much the standard user can store on a specific disk drive .

There is one thing before you start limitation, the file system of the local disk should be NTFS .

How to know which type your drive is, just go to the local disk -> right click -> properties -> then you will see which type of file  system your drive is.

Now let’s do the limitation :

1- go to the disk drive -> right click -> properties ->  in the top of the window press on Quota.

2- press enable quota management check box notice that if you want to deny the exceed the quota limit by the user then check on the deny disk space to user exceeding quota limit check box, in this way you will never let the user to exceed the space that given to it by you.

3- press quota entries button .

4- from Quota -> new Quota entry .

5- Enter the user name of the user you want to apply quota on it -> press OK.

6- Choose limit disk space to -> and enter the disk space you want to allow the user to use.

7- set the warning level to -> enter the disk space that if the user exceed the operating system will give the administrator a report that the user is close to use all the allowed bytes that can use -> then press OK.

NOW log in as a standard user that you applied quota on it:

try to add a folder with bigger size than the exceed ….. windows will start saving the folder in the drive till it reaches the exceed amount then it will give you this message

Windows 7 – Hiding Local Disk

You are using Windows 7 and you have very important information , all this information are in one of your local disks like (C:/ or D:/) so you want to hide this local disk to prevent any one to easily access this information .

How To Hide a Local Diska in Windows 7

It is easy … you don’t want to use any additional program just open start menu -> Run -> regedit -> press enter

now you are in the registry witch is the database of your operating system contain important information  about hardware , installed programs and settings , and profile of user accounts in your computer .

in the registry browse the following key :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

if the Explorer key doesn’t exist just right click and new key then name it Explorer.

Now you are inside the Explorer key you have to create a 32-bit DWORD key by clicking right click then new 32-bit DWORD and name it  NoDrives.

Now you are in the most important part how to determine which drive I want to hide ??

you should enter a Hexadecimal or Decimal value to determine which drive to hide .

Let’s assume that I want to Hide Drives C: and E: so I should set the value of the NoDrives 32-bit DWORD key with a value of 32 bit number so just we arrange it like this :

Convert the number (10100) to a decimal number  , the answer is (20) or to hexadecimal value and the answer is (0x14) .

then double click on the NoDrives key and add even 20 and choose Decimal or 0x14 and choose Hexadecimal.

Restart your machine and Congratulation you hided the drivers that you want to hide 🙂 .
